I've got a 1999 F-250 Supercab that I'd like to put a little lower body rock protection on, using some kind of nerf bar or boss bar or step bar or whatever, but it has to be strong enough to not krinkle and still support the truck when climbing over rocky terrain, or squeezing thru tight rocky turns. I'm inclined to make my own using 2 or 2-1/2 pipe and homemade brackets to the frame, but if some manufacture has already done the fabricating, it would save me some time. Most of their ads make them look pretty (not real important to me) and functional as steps, but what about strength from sliding over rocks?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you guys can provide!
All the ones I've seen were only "step" or "bling" bars.
I would recommend fabbing your own. At least 1/4" or 3/8" wall to be able to endure the forces these heavy trucks can apply.... With at least 3 mounts per side.
They are more commonly called sliders, check the 4WD websites like fullsizebronco.com and you will probably find some for sale or at least some designs.
