Alpha, I'm too lazy to try and relocate the post pertaining to the msd or Mallory ignition module. Can you refresh my memory on what you reccomend? I am thinking of upgrading my ignition system.
There was something else... But I can't remember what. Maybe it will come to me later.
Are you talking about the box itself? MSD-6a's are plentiful and most big chain parts stores even carry them if you need one. The Mallory parts are good, but not as readily available for replacement.
If you are talking about dizzy's, then usually a re-curved stock until will work with most mild performance upgrades. For all out racing, then again I'd go with the MSD for the same reason noted above. The Mallory Unilite unite is an outstanding piece, just not ideal for a vechicle that gets dirty off road or is subjected to the bouncing that most offroad vehicles get.
Yep. just try to mount it up and where it will be dry. If you want to keep it under the hood, look for the offroad version. It's a little more expensive, but its filled with expoxy to keep it safe from vibrations and moisture. If it were me, I'd just extend the wires and put a regular 6a under the dash out of harm.
6al on the trans inspection plate by the t-case shifter.
MSD distributors (even distributors for chebby, dodge, etc) use Ford duraspark guts. The only reason I'd use a MSD distributor is if you want to ditch the vacuum advance in a race only application. All other instances a stock duraspark distributor is as good as it gets.
I've run the 6a box and blaster coil under the hood for years hooked up to a msd dist. Power washed under the hood dozens of times after wheelin with no problems other than water getting under the cap.
