Hey guys 1 of the other members is doing a 6.9 to 7.3 swap. He needs a 7.3/C6 auto tranny flywheel. I have 1 but it has a few bad teeth on ring gear. Autozone and a few others list a ring gear for the clutch flywheel but not Autotranny flywheel. I am guessing they have never heard of an automatic with flywheel but..... Is this the same ring gear/will it work? Don't want to ship this flywheel from St louis to Oregon and find he can't use it.
Want to get this to him so he can get his truck fixed. Don't want to know what shipping is going to be.
The ring gear is not on the flex plate it is on the flywheel. The flex plate bolts inside the flywheel. Only thing I ever saw like it. I can post a picture later if you want.
It actually makes sense to me. Without that big flywheel the vibrations of that engine would be alot worse. I don't know why the seperate flex plate unless to use an existing flywheel they already had.
auto trans flex plate is different from the manual flywheel
the ring gear is part of the flex plate for structural integrity
and even with that said, they still crack.
I swapped a 6.9 from an 87 with C6 into an 89 that 7.3 C6. I will try and get picture tomarrow of the flywheel flexplate for those that haven't seen it.
Type4 he is about 80 mile south of you. IMed him to pop in this thread see if he is interested.
I pulled a 7.3 out of my 89 that has a C6 and installed a 6.9 that was attached to a C6. Both had a seperate flywheel and flex plate. I don't believe the trans in my 89 is original though.
weird. the C-6 i put in my 88 used a one piece flex plate. it did have a crank shaft strengthener plate, but it was only a little larger than the crank flange.
and the 4 other C-6 trucks had the same setup
Flywheel/flexplate from 7.3 is sitting in back of pickup. Weird setup, flexplate actually sits inside flywheel. Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - rolape2's Album: Flywheel
Shows picture in my album. Obiviously some works has been done on this truck before I got it. I was told by PO that his uncle special ordered this truck with the C6. I beleive it had a E4OD and they swapped in C6. but don't know. This is the same configurationthe 6.9 had though.

Thats what mine has too. My understanding was that they changed over to the one piece flywheel in 1992 but I'm not positive. I'm running this setup with my E4OD at the moment, but I did have to space the transmission back slightly.
