Borg-Warner transfer cases...?

Okay, this isn't too serious, but I am curious. What is the difference(s) between a BW1356 and a BW1345? I've heard of the 1345, but never really knew what it came in (used to think it was a ranger tcase, which is actually the 1354). Any stipulations on what they came equipped in? I figure as a rule of thumb (MOST of the time, bc I've seen lots of Trans/case combos over the years) that a T18/19 truck came with a BW transfer case, and a NP435 truck came with a NP208....not sure about autos, but they seem to have a BW tcase, also. Maybe THATs the 1345?
Just curious, really (REALLY)

Dad's 1981 C6 has the NP 208 attached. The '81 I call Rusty has an NP435/208 combo. The ZF5 I bought has the BW1356.

If we could figure some of this stuff out we should create a spreadsheet that shows all that stuff and post it somewhere on the site. I'm happy to do the s/s if we can crack the code on the transmissions.

In fact, there are probably several things like that which should be documented as we find it so we can point people to it.

This was *kind of* the idea behind this thread...if there's one thing ford is notorious for, it's oddball parts lol...ESPECIALLY during the 80's!!

Gary,

Read Pg 1 of the Transmission Section (Section 70) about how to identify these things and look up parts to them...

BTW the headings in the charts first apply to transmission identification, but later transition to transfer case identification.

Anyhow, the 7AA, etc. I assume is gleaned from the ID Tags on the transfer cases themselves, match up the tag & the chart to find the correct Parts List to find specific components.

Bill (ND) ought to be able to confirm.

My personal feelings are that it'd be pretty useless to go create a spreadsheet that tries to say "1980-198x used the Binford 1000 Transmission combined with Wonka Walker 300 Transfer Case" (or whatever) because, well, look at all the variations (the Parts Lists).

IMHO the best documentation there is has already been provided by Ford in these books....

Having slept on it, I think you are right. I retract my offer.

I can supply a really good link to this info, but , its from another site. It is a sticky at FSB. I have read the entire thread and can say that it doesnt have any bad language in it. Also there are a lot members there that are members here. Curtis, if you have any issues with me posting the link I could send it to you and maybe Somebody(Gary) could sort of but not really plagerize it and turn it into a FTE thread.

We have links to stuff on FSB in our tech sticky, there is absolutely no problem with posting a link here to good information located elsewhere.

Here is a link that has some good T case and tranny info:

http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/...ad.php?t=49569

This link specifies some gear ratios of transmissions as well as T cases.

Enjoy!!!

Gary did we ever get confirmation that your truck does indeed have the NP 208? Reading through this thread all of the sudden has me second guessing. It maybe could be the 203 or the 435.
