I need a new ejector ratchet and stem for my 6" stainless.
Part number 89 in that above pic.
I did a Google search but could only find a couple sites that listed the part, and only ColtParts had it in stock. But they want $85 bucks for the part, whereas other sites had the part listed for $30 bucks or less. Unfortunately the sites that had it cheaper were out of stock.
I know Colt Python parts are getting scarce, and I posted up in the Social Group I belong to (and have some leads), but was hoping to drum up more choices, just in case the leads I have turn up with negative results.
The places that had it cheaper but no stock might not have had the part for a few years, so their prices are lower. I would buck up and buy one before you can't get one at all. Just think, it takes way more than $85 to fill an Excursion with fuel. Part seems cheaper now huh :-)
Over time (it used to be my duty weapon) the star part of the ejector became...it's hard to describe...but it's like it became dislodged. It's still attached to the stem, but it will rotate about a 16th of an inch (maybe a hair more) clockwise and counter-clockwise, from the static position it's supposed to be locked in.
So now, whenever I eject the brass, when I release the ejector rod, the ratchet "star" doesn't seat against the cylinder without me rotating it back into proper position.
I carried it for years, then went to a S&W 4506 (biggest piece of crap boat anchor I've ever held), then very quickly moved on to a Glock 21.
My Python, except for the ejector ratchet, is in fantastic shape. I just never got around to replacing that part, and figured I better do so now.

Parts for older firearms at places like Numrich and other usually are used parts.
In any case, whether used or new, It will require some fitting to operate properly on your cylinder. Cylinder timing becomes a issue that has to be fitted. This costs time and money.
What you describe is a realatively simple fix, usually. You may consider taking it to a competent (I use that word with caution.) gunsmith.
It may need nothing more than being properly restaked or a silver solder repair. I run onn the lines that using the original part, if repairable, is far better than paying for the fitting of a new or used part.
If there is not a good place near you, there are several online Gunsmithing compaies that have good reputations, but, of course, I have never used them, so I can't recommend one over the other.
Mail order repairs are simple. You Notify the FFL dealer it is coming, pack it well in a unmarked package, and ship it ONLY by UPS. No paperwork or permits or crap needed. The Gunsmith will send it back after it is repaired direct to your door.
Of course get it insured both ways and signature delivery. I did many transactions of that type. Only the gunsmith has paperwork to do in their record book.

I take it that's because of slightly different tolerances from gun to gun?

Can you explain that process?

Ugh! I'm not sure I could let this revolver out of my possession.
Yes, that's why I titled it "OT", which means off topic, because it's not about Excursions.
I don't see any smilies in your post, so I'm not sure if you're crackin wise, or serious. On the off-chance you're serious, I'll answer your post in the same vein.
I don't go to the GNAC forum. Until I became a mod, I can remember being at that forum maybe 3 or 4 times, so I don't know the members who populate that forum. Honestly, until I became a Mod this past December, I was not familiar with the acronym GNAC.
I know you guys. I wanted my fellow Ex owners to chime in if they could help.
As for off topic threads, as long as they're not rampant and getting posted everyday, once in awhile they're ok.
We don't have them very often here, but in the 7.3L PSD forum, they come up a little more frequently, and I thought about placing a thread there too, because I know The Brotherhood (see the link in my sig), but I wanted to see if my fellow Ex owners could help out first.
Hope that explains it in a satisfactory manner for you.
