Went to the dealer today to inquire about having the clearance lights installed on my 2011. They ran my vin and advised my truck had side curtain air bags mounted in the headliner area and they will not install the lights due to having to drill the roof and would not risk damage to the air bag system. If true, good call on their part. They advised not all the trucks have the air bags in the headliner,,,interesting, have to look at my spec sheet,,,anyone run into this?
I have a 2011, my truck did not come with factory clearance lights and does have side airbags. I removed the headliner (Dropped it in front) and installed the lights.
IMO they are lazy, there is no conflict with the lights and airbags.
Thanks Gunny,,,,think I remember you posting about the install but could not find the thread......I called another dealer and they said it was not an issue, just wanted to be sure. Think if my dad saw me in a Super Duty with no clearance lights he would roll over in his grave!
They just don't want to risk a lawsuit if they somehow did damage the side air bags during install (may not even be possible to damage).
Silly though but you know people sue for everything these days.
When I installed my lights, they ran the VIN to make sure I got the right harness. I have the curtain airbags and the harness includes the lights and air bag wiring. Very easy swap, plug and play! I could have just made my own harness and tapped into the tail light circuit but I wanted factory parts.
Edit: The factory harness also includes the Sirius antenna wire...
