Not to start a war with the diesel vs the V10 again as I've seen or recall a diesel vs V10 thread in previous thread on here but I've personally never had a diesel or even driven one before and only have a pass with the V10. But what is the up sides to both and the down sides to both? I would have some interest in knowing this as I recall in a thread somewhere here on this board that the diesels cost alot more to maintain and something like you need to wait for the vehicle to build air before taking off and leaving the parking lot.
Also need to mention that I see or come across somewhat way less V10's on the market and a whole lot more diesels on the market for sale, and also see a big price difference in the diesels costing quite a bit more than the V10's.
Can some folks here chime in on coming from both sides of the fence on the ups & downs of the both?
Mine has 60k on it. thinking of selling both to get a class C motorhome. I did the plugs at 50k. 02 was a changeover year. I believe the eary 02`s had less threads in the head for the plugs and the later ones had more threads. The V-10`s are a great motor and will last a very long time if taken care of.
Thanks guys, yea it is overkill for a 21ft boat. I"m pulling it now with my wifes 02 4.0 explorer and it does fine but the explorer has 222,xxx miles on it and I"m about ready to retire it. Thought the excursion would pull anything I need to and have room for the kids on road trips. I sold my f350 so thought this would serve as a dual purpose vehicle. Looks like a v10 excursion is in my near future. Thanks
I just sold my '04 F350 4x4 CC SB SWB 6.0L with 212k mi to reduce our debt. We just bought an '02 X Lmtd 4x4 V10 with 153k mi. I have no worries about this engine at 153k mi. There is another thread on here with a guy at 355k mi on his V10. Ford made the SuperDuty right and made it to last. These trucks will out last any equivalent vehicle on the market. Yes they will have some maintenance, but I believe it is still one of the most reliable vehicles for the capability. Good Luck in your search.
Yea I sold my f350 to reduce debt, when I quit drag racing and sold my enclosed I had no need for a truck I was still making payments on. I'm suprised at how cheap you can pick up a 2000-2002 v10 excursion. I should have went this route when I bought my f350..
I also sold my '04 6.0 and bought an '02 V10 about a year ago since I don't need the Excursion for work now. Back in 2008 when I bought my 6.0, they were only a couple of thousand more than a low mileage V10. Now they seem to be many thousands more and I wish I would have waited another year before trading. I could have a few thousand more dollars in my pocket right now.
