Is it just me, or are those rotors trashed as well?
Slow down, back up, and do it right. Don't do the job twice. If the rotors need to be turned, then either turn them, or replace them. Put good pads and a spring/hardware kit in.
Looks like you've had a bunch of issues in your front end, and you should address them all now that you have it apart. You'll be happier for it in the long run.
I fully agree, even if you only drive it 50 miles per year. Do it right the first time and be done with it for a long, long time.
Hub usage Depends on Axle series (44, 50, 60) and the later hubs are only retained by 3 bolts.
Spindles are in the salvage, if you have any older vehicle salvages around. TTB stuff should be relatively cheap. (I like the TTB, except for the occasional funny tire wear.) You might be able to buy a whole TTB axle with turnable brakes, etc, cheaper than just a new Ford spindle! Just get a guarantee of goodness of that part from the yard, if you can't take it apart there. F250HD.
My rotors and pads are trashed! I really don't have the money to spend right now on new ones though. I'm figuring they will last until I am ready to throw a solid axle on under the front of this. I'm gonna go ahead and check craigslist, see if maybe I could find brakes for it for cheap by some miracle.
I think you need to pull the spindles off and have a look at the spindle bearing and seal. I think you could be getting some goo in there from the back side.
Got the rest of it taken apart, and all cleaned up, my biggest problem now is finding something large enough to drive the new races in with!
I use the old races as a tool whenever I can.
Well Keyul, you opened a can of worms. I want to make it clear that I do like the TTB front end Ford uses. It gives a good ride for a 4x4 truck and they seem to help keep the tires on the ground off road for good traction. However, they are high maintenance. When you pull them down so far it is almost counter productive to not go all the way with it. When I address my bronco's front end I will pull the entire thing out from under the truck and give it the everything including a new used LS carrier. I will do every u joint, ball joint , tie rod end, bushing , seal , and bearing from stem to stern. In hopes that I wont ever have to do it again.
