my manual is for 87-91 lol...the chilton manual i looked in says the number 1 fuse is for the fuel line heater and its always hot...might have a dead short???
my owners manual says fuse#1, 20a is for headlamp flash to pass and daytime running lamps (Canada only). That's from my 92 F250. Autozone.com has wiring diagrams under repair guides that might tell you more. You have to register on their site (free) to access repair guides.
i had the same problem.finally got fed up and hit up ebay for the owners manual and diesel supplement too.
mines showing ('93 book) the same info bashby shows.
fuse # 1 is 20 amps headlamp flash to pass and daytime running lamps (Canada only.)
so this would point me to start inspecting the headlight high/low beam flash switch.

sounds like a nightmare, i hate electrical. I also left both batteries unhooked last night and one was down to 10.1 volts this morning. It was 12.8 when unhooked so it looks like time for new batteries also.
From fuse A in the power distribution box is a LG/P wire to one of the connectors on the back of the radio. This is hot all the time, for the radio presets & clock.
thats for gas trucks i see Phy.i wonder if the diesels are setup different?
(my '93 is.)
Good catch, I didnt see that earlier. I'd think the radio would run off of the same fuse either way, but you never know. OT: When I was looking at mine I noticed that I have a relay in the fuel pump relay spot... wonder what it does if anything.
I did the test light trick and found the fuse, does anybody have the fuse box diagram for a 94. It is in the box under the hood. It is the first little fuse closest to the fender. 20A.
One of them should match your truck they are for different versions of the 93 &94 model years.
Good luck
Mark
PS if you send me an email To Kilo Alpha 5 Run Zig Zag at Gmail.COM I will send you a pdf of all of them.

Reason: add PS.
Well since every picture or chart i find says something different i decided to do a little test. Start the truck and pull the fuse and see what happens. The radio turned off. therefore i think that fuse goes to the radio. Instead of trying to track the factory wire through fire wall and dash i am just going to run a new wire with a 20a fuse to the radio and wire it in.

I don't think it's the wire to the radio shorted to ground, that would probably just blow a fuse. Pull the radio out of the dash and unplug it, see if the draw goes away, it could be in the radio itself. Like I was saying earlier the wiring diagrams sometimes show items that run from that fuse that arent mentioned in the legend to the fuse panel. I checked the wiring diagrams on autozones site earlier today but couldnt find that fuse. They have some wiring diagrams but not the complete ones.

Not to say you don't have a wiring issue, but this just blatantly shouts BAD BATTERY!! as your problem. Now, was the battery fully charged when unhooked? and what was the voltage on the other battery?
If that battery has a bad cell, it will pull the other battery down trying to charge it, which will give you two dead batteries in the morning.
I need to change mine too. I replaced them about 4 years ago with Walmart cheapies, thinking they should be good enough for a couple years, then just warranty them. Now I'm pissed because I know I put the receipt somewhere for just that reason, and can't find it

I've had walmart warranty a battery without a receipt... there's a date code on the battery so you might not get the same credit towards a new battery, but take it in there and see what they will do. Wal mart WILL take ANYTHING back if you scream loud enough!
bashby, I'm thinking about that, but its kind of a pain to pull both batteries in the parking lot, and bring them in, then find they won't warranty it, and have to put them back. Right now I can't afford to purchase new... I've already torn apart the glove box looking, and some of my desk, need to look again because I swear I put it someplace where I could find it....

Oops... The radio is still on fuse A

The fuel pump relay spot isn't used on an IDI, and it has an IDM relay on a powerstroke.
both batteries read 12.8 when I shut the truck off and unhooked them. In the morning the right battery read 10.1 and the left was still reading 12.8. I have two extra batteries so i am going to put on of those in today and then play with the radio. this radio is about 3 months old so i hope it is not that.
