What's the prediction on when we'll see (or are likely to see) the next tweek to either the inside or outside of the SD line?
I really don't care for the hood emblem deal on the current truck and since there's nothing wrong with the one I have I'm thinking of holding out a bit longer i.e. perhaps 2013 model.....
I'm afraid that the big re-design, whenever that is, is going to have IFS. Earlier rumors hinted that the F250's might be IFS while the F350's would retain the solid axle. That would boost F350 sales I bet!
I know its not economical, but it would be nice to see the manual transmission come back as an option.
As I understand the ZF6 wouldn't hold up to the 400/800 the 6.7 makes, so Ford would have to spend $$ to buy/design a trans that would work. When most people want autos anyway, why spend money to change very little.
Maybe Ford will put a Super 10 behind the 6.7L once they figure out why the valves are cracking
Still don't understand why they did away with the manual trans. So much more control. I understand why some would not want one. But seriously, I take pride in driving a manual. Also I like the previous front end of the SD's a little bit better than the current as well. I hope they revamp the design soon as well.

Or maybe boost F250 sales? Drive a GM HD truck and then give us your opinion...IMHO they handle and drive better than our SFAs. I'd love IFS if it were done right.

To what end? Most in the 6.7L forum who previously decried the 6R140 came to love it after they drove it. I expect the next gen SD will have the "manual" mode which allows the transmission to be shifted just as if it were a manual. Meaning you can apply full power in any gear, even 6th down to 1,200 RPMs!

Eh, its just a matter of preference. I've driven all three brands, new and old. While I agree the IFS makes for a better ride, that's not what I want in a heavy duty truck. I want simple, proven, and reliable. Maybe one day IFS will be described using those words but I don't think we're there yet.

Just so the choice is there. I personally prefer to shift my own gears. If there were any used manual trans trucks available (or if I could have afforded to order a brand new truck in 2007) I would have a manual trans. Again, its a matter of preference.
I have had this argument many times and this is my personal feeling
auto's are for lazy or handicapped people or those that are not one with what they are driving
both of my kids learned how to drive with a stick my oldest she missed a stick so bad that when she bought her toaster( IE SICON XB ) I had to find her a manual
My step daughter she learned to drive a stick but she is not one with what she drives so she wants a auto

I boils down to if you drive or DRIVE
LOL! I know where you are coming from but the reality is that the new 5-speed or 6-speed automatic transmissions get as good or better MPG's that the manual transmissions and keep the RPM's in the power band for better pulling power.
What I want to see is a "paddle shifter" on the steering wheel for the new 6-speed Torqshift transmission! Now that would be the ticket!
I dislike the front end to some degree as well. I also agree with you guys wanting a manual trans option. I HATE automatics, just hate them. I hate the upfront cost, the design and maintenance complexity plus the cost to maintain them. I went to great pains to get my hand shaker and will miss that part of the truck tremendously when I finally move on.
well there are people in this world that love manuals and people that would rather have a auto in their truck. now if ur like my dad, he has a log truck with an 18spd eaton fuller and its not like hes an over-the-road driver, so he does a lot of shifting on and off the road. he usually uses 16 of the 18 gears and is on the backroads. i asked him one time about manuals and said that he shifts all day in the log truck and when he gets in the 6.0 to come home, he doesnt wanna have to worry about shifting. i like manuals and autos and do think it would be nice to have another 6spd.
i also like the idea of clutch packs and a slap shifter. and on the IFS debate, i dont think that would be so cool. i wouldnt be able to talk ***** with my duramax buddies about how i have a real truck with two axles. if i wanted IFS, id get an f150. but if they do go with that, i think havin the f350 still a solid axle would be smart and a good idea.
and BTW, ford is getting rid of the 3.7L v-6 and adding 2 more ecoboosts. a 3.0L and i think 2.7L. there also may be an inline diesel for the f150s.

Your dad and I have similar reasons for liking Automatics. I haven't nearly as much experience as many truckers but after 250,000 mile of 10- and 13-speed transmissions I really enjoy automatic transmissions. Of course my Mustang has a 6-speed manual, but if I had to do it again I would rather the auto. And deck60, you can call me lazy, handicapped, or not one with what I'm driving all you like.
