Well i was hauling a load of scrap to our local scrapyard and there sat a 79 f150 4x4 4 spd that was just brought in that day (Saturday). So i popped the hood and my jaw dropped. There sits an inline 6 with all factory smog/egr still attached. My buddy i was with knew the guy who had this truck. So i asked the owner of the scrap yard what he would take for the engine. He told me hed do 200$ and cut it out for me with the torch. I told him to hold that thought and id give him a call. On my way home i stopped by the guy who scrapped the truck. Asked him about the engine/tranny and he told me hes the 2nd owner of the truck. His brother had bought it new. The truck has 79,000 original miles on it, doesnt smoke, no engine noises and purs like a kitten. He also said he drove it there which i believe because when i checked the oil it was warm. The reason he scrapped it because the truck itself needed alot of work. He said its got a good clutch and transmission too. So first thing in the morning im gonna go over, fire it up and make sure its a solid engine and then cut it out. The guy told me hed take 250 for the engine and tranny both. If he lets the transfer case go with it ill probably do that.
The guy got 537$ scrap price for it. I didnt have the extra for the whole truck. I did however get the engine, transmission and transfercase along with the radiator, air duct work, solenoid and battery all for 200.00$. I fired it up before we pulled it. Its been sitting 3 days in 20-30 degree weather and cranked right up, no engine noises or smoke. Idled perfectly. Its sitting in the back of my truck now with a destroyed dist cap and powersteering pump because the guy who pulled it decided to rip the cab off the frame with the escavator and tore up a couple parts. Ohwell ill put the engine to good use it was sad though to see the truck get destroyed.

I hate when they do that to trucks. Wreck good parts taking things out. Took me a few months just to find a drive shaft that was not bent by front loaders picking up the trucks.
There is a slavage here that pulls everything with a sledge hammer. I needed a actuator arm for an auto tranny out of a Ford Ranger. They smashed the tranny into pieces to get it out. Then charged me $10.00 for the part. Why didnt they just give me the tranny for $10.00 and I could have pulled it at home?
