check engine light on a 94 Ranger
Hi, Visiting over from the 7.3L forum. I have a question about a check engine light on a 94 Ranger. its been coming on every once in a while for a short time. Cannot be more specific because its my daughter's truck and she cannot be bothered with specifics. Took it to have the codes run and no one can run them for free because of the age. Pep Boys will run the codes but they want $150 just to run them. Do I have any other options to get info out of this truck?

Welcome to the Ranger & BSeries forum.
The 94 Ranger is OBD-1, so many parts stores code readers don't go back that far, but you can pull the codes yourself, following these instructions.
EEC IV Self Test hookup
With the vintage of this vehicle, if it has more than 75K miles on it, a weak/lazy O2 sensor is a good suspect, especially with the CEL coming & going. My 94 Taurus was doing the same thing a couple of years ago & the codes turned up a lazy O2 sensor, so I changed both before cat sensors, as they had 90+K miles & should be done in pairs.
Let us know what you find.
