Is there a spring on the emergency brake that helps hold it in place after you have pulled the brake out? If there is, where is it and can a new one be bought to replace it?

The handle attaches to a shaft that has notches in it.
A pin (0M-2859) fits through the upper section of the outer shroud, toward the end of it. then into the apropos notch...which depends on how far you pull the handle out
There is a parking brake lever pawl (0M-2786) and coil spring (0M-2788) that fits into the shroud just behind its dash bracket, but, will any of these parts solve the problem? Maybe yes, maybe no.
If the cables are out of adjustment, even if you replace the pin, lever and spring, you can pull on that handle all the way to Miami OK! It won't be any better than before.
The front cable attaches to the hand brake handle, then to an equalizer bar on the frame rail. There is a threaded adjustment rod that connects to the equalizer, then to a link that the rear cables attach to.
Tighten up the nut on that rod, see if that solves the problemo.
