I use a 50/50 mix of Prestone and water from the garden hose.
I'm assuming you're wanting to add antifreeze because it's dyed, so you can locate a leak? Even if you live in a scorching-hot climate that never freezes, you still should run antifreeze, because about 5% of it is composed of rust inhibitors that are absolutely essential to your block's survival.

It's currently not being driven. I want to fix this problem before I bring it too the city. We've been trying to keep it full just to prevent everything from drying out.
I recommend using "Distilled Water" mixed with Your Anti-Freeze over the Garden Hose..
I'm sure distilled water is probably better, less contaminants that can help to build up garbage over time. But my reasoning at the time was that if I'll drink it, it's probably good enough to go in my 30+ year old truck (not the most sound reasoning I'm sure)

I'll drink to that... But it's not to late, lol.....
In older engines to remove some of those minerals that may have built up over time, one can drain the system completely, then refill with, and run on pure distilled water for a week or so, give the pure H20 some time to absorb some of that garden hose up, drain it, then refill with a mixed solution....
Also, for the rest of you, pre-mixed 50/50 solutions sold are pre-blended with distilled water... Check the ingredients on the label....
the only thing is i always flush them, and i have yet to figgure out how to get all the garden hose water out of the engine.
so i guess i'm another garden hoser .... gotta get that old crappy stuff out some how. I always just flush it till it is clear, then start the engine with the garden hose running through the engine until it is clear again, then shut it off and drain the radiator and refill with 100% antifreeze. start it up until it is at temp and check the strength.
usually this will get me to where it reads -30 to -40, but never less than -20.
if i could figgure out how to run distilled water through the hose to flush it out, i sure would ... but after 15 years or so of doing this ... i kinda just stopped worrying about it.
