Well, I'm finally moving my batteries to the frame to allow for room for the york air comp. I however thought I had something draining my batteries as it wouldn't start a couple times here lately after sitting for a while. Well, after some testing it seems like one of my batteries is bad and draining the other while sitting. I'm not real happy. I just bought these along with 3 others just like them at good ol wally world 2 months ago, give or take.
Anyway, I'm going to get 2 new ones AGAIN, but not wally world ones. I'll get the replacement for the one that is bad and use it in something else. I however don't want to spend a fortune like can be spent (Glenn, I'm thinking of the ones you bought, would be nice but not in the budget). Too many other things going on right now.
Options? I want at least 850cca which these are now. Physical size doesn't matter, as long as they aren't too tall, as they will be on the frame in a box I'm building.
I was just thinking of getting some interstates, but its nice to start a thread once in a while instead of just "trying" to answer. Maybe you guys have a better idea for me. Commercial batteries?
the snow plow and emergency lights kill my batteries every 18 months. so i just switched over tho the costco batteries. 3 year non prorate replacement.
before the 3 year time limit runs out, take them back and get new batteries free.
i know a guy that has not bought a battery in over 10 years now for his plow truck.
I've given up on longevity of the more contemporary batteries and just looked for the best warranty. Seems like it doesn't matter if it's deka, johnson control, or MIC. If you aren't buying like an odyssey or xs power for $300+ theyre just plain hit or miss. So, with that being said, I just bought 3 motorcraft max (2 for my truck and one for the exploder) @ 850 cca/1000 ca for $129.99 each. Theyve got 0-36 month free replacement and 37-100 month prorated warranties! Thats my drawn out $0.02 anyway fwiw.
A little OT, but if you put them on the frame, be sure to run some cables with a plug up high that you can hook jumper cables to.
I plan on putting a remote positive and negative post on the outside of the box, just like I have on our race cars, for hooking jumpers to. Also putting an on/off power switch there so if I need to cut power I don't need to get in the box. Negative cable from the batteries to the frame, then from the frame to the cab and to the block.
Jacob, I've been searching the net for ideas, and I like the thought of motorcrafts the more I look. Dad had his in his V10 for 10 years before we changed it. Where did you get yours at? Can the local ford dealer get them for me? Did you get the BH65?
Tom, I don't know anything about the costco batteries, where do you get them? Like I said, I'm open for ideas.
Also, going with 1/0 gauge welding cable. What's anyone think of the multiple battery terminal hookups like for a stereo? There will be lots of crap going on in that box with the remote hookups, switch, etc. so need multiple hookups on the terminals. Lots have a set screw, which I'm not as big of a fan of. I'd like to just melt a bunch of solder in the ends and be done. Anyone with a good place to get ends like that? I may want one able to hold 3 cables on one post.

I got mine at O'Reillys simply because there is one in every small town around here. Can't say that for the dealership. But I believe ford can get them. Gonna call in ten minutes and verify. I got BXT65-850. I almost got some group 31 1000cca batts but they had an 18 month warranty, period.
I just looked at orielly's site, those are the 750cca batts, I want the 850 and that is not listed. What I found is about 153 bucks each, shipped. But then there is the core charge, and shipping batts back is not beneficial for sure. I'll call ford monday and see. Probably still cheaper to eat the core charge and ship them then get them from ford...
I'm running red tops for the past year and love them so far. I've read that the new ones aren't as good as the older version, but so far so good for me.
I'm at my cousins in northern Oh for the weekend, truck sat all night not plugged in and it fired right up. It's cold up here.

Same thing for me here man. But actually in the store all they had was the 850. My Explorer only needs like 650 or something and calls for a Motorcraft Max BXT65-650 but they didn't have that either. For the same price and same warranty I got the 850 for it too. If you have a local O'Reilly give them a ring.
There's also the O'Reilly house brand. The Super Start Extreme's have 880 cca and are $122.99. AND every single component is made and sourced the the USA. 36 month replacement and 84 month prorated warranty.

i put 2 battery quick connects on the front and rear of my truck. then i cut my jumper cables 18" from one end and installed the quick connects in the middle. this way i can use my jumper cables normally or i can plug the long end into the front or rear of my truck and jump someone off. very convenient! helps to keep from jacking up the posts/connections by using jumper cables too!

only thing i can suggest is run that welding cable through good conduit or loom. the exterior jacket is not rated to stand up to oil and diesel and other harsh chemicals. it would just add an extra layer of protection! just my .02 cents. Del City is where i get most of my electrical stuff from and for the most part they are very reasonable and quality. http://www.delcity.net/
