I've recently rebuilt my 1978 F-150 that has a 300 in it. Took the engine in and had it bored out and rebuilt, had the tranny rebuilt, new clutch, new core put in the radiator, had the carb rebuilt and cleaned, and refurbished the insisde of my cab. Since then i've done the timing... i found a previous thread telling me that they are timed from factory at 10 degrees... and basically have had it running fairly well. But it seems that every time i pull up to an intersection, i push my clutch in and when i'm almost stopped it stalls. It doesn't matter how much it has been driven prior, it stalls. Can anyone help me with this?
in reply to fmc400, i went out and started the truck to let it warm up, after i figured it was warm i pushed my clutch and choke all the way in and it almost died right there. i left off the clutch just leaving it in neutral and it stayed running, however it isn't running smoothly, it revs up to just a touch over a nice idle and then revs down to an almost stall and back and so forth. i tried tweaking the idle adjustment screw on my carb as well as the mixture screw, but nothing would really get rid of the change. do i have a problem inside my (supposedly cleaned and rebuilt) carb? i never did get to road test to see if it stalls in neutral yet.

You shouldn't be taking your choke from full to off that quickly.
Sounds like you might have a vac leak. Get some carb spray and spray it all around the intake, carb,, etc and see if the idle chages, just stay away from your exhuast. Sounds like its hunting a little bit. Did anyone set the floats in the carb?
