78 F150 front axle

I have a '78 F150 Super Cub 4X4 heavy half I'm partin out. Body is shot as usual, runin gear good. 9" posie rear, full time 4X4. My question is: I have a fellow from Ontario Canada willin to drive down to centeral Pa. for the front rear, plus pay me to pull it or he'll pull? Just hub to hub.No brake or steer parts. It's leaf spring, st. axle. He said he wants it to put in a Jeep? He's after it hard enough a red flag came up!! Can y'all give me an idea what it's worth. I think he's tryin to steal it?? Any help please. Thanks JIM

all it is is an hd44 leafspring 5 lug f/e, actually referred to as a y200 suspension, that being a 150/5-lug 1/2 ton single caliper rotors attached to a 3/4 ton axle, anybody can buy a 3/4 ton f250 axle and install/swap the outers onto a 3/4 ton and make it what you have..it is worth what anyone is willing to pay for the convenience of not having to combine 2 axle set up to achieve a 1/2 ton leaf spring set up..price out a f250 front axle, same set up ..in actualiity I think the 3/4 ton set up is better because of the dual calpier set up vs. the single and 8 lug vs. the 5 lug.......good luck w/ the sale

'78 F150 FRONT AXLE

Thanks for the come back.
For some reason he's really hot on this front rear? Wants to put under a Jeep Wrangler. He's willin to pay $200 + $50 to pull it,that's not countin the fuel & time to come get it. 8/9 hour drive time each way? He even said if I give him air,he'll bring air tools & pull it himself?? I know he wants the 5 lug. Said he'll change punkin to match Jeep rear gears & put the brakes & steering on it. Seems like a lot for a rear if it is just a common one? He seems to know what he's talkin about? Not sure, but I think there's more to what he's doin than he's sayin?? He sent me a picture of a rear & in the back groud, you could see other rears all cleaned & painted on the floor.
A friend down the road from my farm, has a small Chevy truck bone yard.He told he several years ago he had a '78/''79 bronco with this type front rear & got big bucks for it to off road racers due to the leaf spring/st. axle set up??
Since he's hard Chevy, thought I'd check with Ford people. There must be more to it than what's on the surface. It's not like I have to sell it! Any other thoughts? Thanks again.
I do have a '78 F100 4X4,4 speed & a '66 F250 4X4,4 speed I may sell if I don't heal do to an accident/health issue. Thanks again JIM

broncos never had 'this' type of diff.,...they are coil spring, like the f150's...exception being the s/c which have the f250 suspension set up, like yours...that is a good $$$ I got $125 for one, missing 1 axle shaft...the big dollar diffs are the front, 78/79 d60's

What he'll do is grind the spring perches off and 4 link it. I had one on my Jeep as well. They are good for a Jeep swap because they are the right width. I've since a stock axle sell for between $250 and $400. Since yours is missing the brakes I'd say the most you'd get is $300. They are getting a little harder to find, which is why he's willing to travel a bit, I would guess.

why can't he start off with a standard hp d44 then if he's cutting the perches off?

Ok. The wedges are harder to take off than the perches. Mine was from a 150 and took forever to get ground down smooth. Plus the HD housing is stronger, less likely to bend

That's what i figured but a little extra time put into a cheaper (price wise) axle seems like a better investment. You can always weld in supports from the axle tubes to the pumpkin to strengthen it.

Thanks:
Mine has the brakes & steering. Still in truck in one piece. Truck starts & moves. Not far but it moves. He said he didn't need any of it? Will add all that when he changes punkin? I sort of backed away for now. Will pull all drive train before I crush it. Body is shot. Thanks again JIM

do you still have the outer axle? the one that slides into the spindle & hub assy. & has a u-joint on it. I guess you could say the one that works like a CV joint
