Has anyone installed the upfitter switches in a 2012 F-350 XLT? Dealer says they just plug in that harness is already there. Is this true? Thanks in advance!
I've been working all afternoon installing an upfitter switch kit in my '08 F350. What a PITA! The instructions that come with the kit make it sound easy. It's NOT. First, you have to disassemble a lot more of the dash than just the kick panel below the steering column. The panel with the headlight switch has to come off if you want to see where the relay box mounts and finding the plug in the loom that the kit plugs into is a b1tch. Once you find it and get the wire routed to it, you either have to be a contortionist or a 100 lb girlfriend to be able to reach up there to plug them together. I went the girlfriend route because my hand and arm were just way to big to do anything with the plug once I was able to touch it.
To properly route the wire for the switch assembly, the radio needs to come out. That means the whole center of the dash needs to come apart.. If you want to be able to see the plug for the wire loom, you have to lay on the floor and look thru the hole vacated when you take the ashtray assembly out.
I still have to connect the ground and then reassemble the whole dash. This is a much bigger project than it seems and takes about 5-6 hours!
If anyone else is attempting this and you have any questions, post them on the thread and I'll help any way I can.
While i agree with the need for a 100 lb girlfriend (useful outside of this project as well), it being hard to reach up there, and needing to lay on your back; i had it installed in less than an hr on a 2012 f250 KR. An 08 might be diff has sync wasn't avail then so access was diff.
Side, kick, and sync pannels were all i removed. An inspection camera was quite helpful.
sorry to hear all of you having problems upon install, i was done under an hour, it was quite anti climactic actually, to get the wires run in those tough areas i used a bit of safety wire, similar to bailing wire but thinner. Its main use is for locking down bolts to keep em from backing out. no need for the GF to help... I love safety wire has helped me out tooooo many times to count, I have even lashed it to wrenches to keep from dropping them into the abis when working in tough areas with oily hands
Yeah, I had them in a 2011 F250 in about an hour. Hardest part was trying to get the dash apart, we worked on that for 20 min or so before we said screw it, and ended up getting it done by just removing the coin slot and panel under steering wheel. It probably would have been alot easier if we could have removed the cup holder and such, but this was just as easy. Not a bad run all-in-all... and now I got...
