I have a 2006 f150 with rail caps on both rails and the tail gate. I recently bought a truxport tonneau cover. My question: is the 1" rubber flap on the tailgate end of the cover supposed to go inside or outside (rest on top of the tailgate) of the tailgate? Mine is inside and I don't get any leaks, but I wonder if the tailgate closing on it will eventually rip it.
That flap is supposed to come to rest on top of the tailgate when closed. If it comes to rest inside of the tailgate, then your cover is too far toward the cab and needs to be adjusted back slightly. It won't tear from the daily use of opening and closing the gate.
I called the folks who installed it, and they said that it should be on the inside in order to create a smoother look. Either way, if it won't tear from being pinched by the tailgate, it looks good and functions well.

As long as it functions well that is what is important but Chandler is right it should come closer to the outside edge then the inside. Mine sits so that it turns down and then rounds over as it comes to the edge of the gate and goes down from there.
Hey Ed, I was restoring the trim on my truck yesterday and snapped a couple of pics of the tailgate cap on my truck. I thought you might like to see these as it shows where that flap rests on my tailgate.
You'll see there is a very dark line on the top, just off from the edge farthest from the carmera. That dark line is the spot where the weatherstrip/flap on the cover comes to rest.
