Hopefully I can get some good direction. I have a 92 f150 4.9l straight drive and yesterday driving down the road the engine just stopped running. I have power everywhere. Checked for a spark and I have none. Thought the coil was bad and replaced it but still no spark. The truck has 180,000 miles and a lot is still factory parts. Any help is thanked.
Won't start, "no spark" I'd pull the ICM take it to nearest auto parts can test it, have em test it a minute. I'd start with it as its easiest to remove of the two, ICM/PIP. Both equally can cause same result.
If it tests bad get a new one, if tests good well then its probably gonna be the PIP in the dizzy.
In your favor its not likely to get a false test result as "good" (known issue when testing those) you don't have an intermittent problem to cloud the issue Pass/fail.
If you do end up with a new ICM make sure you get a gray in color Push-Start version. The black CCD-style ICM is the wrong one. Many part books are wrong.
Thanks for the help I am going to pull the ICM and have it tested.
Many time's it will pass in their testing machine and still be bad, if it passes their test and your still having a problem, and if you want to do some testing yourself, read through this link all 5 pages, that should pin point the fault ...good luck Part 1 -Ford Ignition Module Test. Fender Mounted Module (ICM).
Well I spent the day doing test and swapping parts and now feel like a real dummy. I stated at the very begining that i could hear the fuel pump but it wasnt the pump it was the fan motor. Sorry. I did all the 5 pages of the test which where in the link and it led me to the ICM bad. even thought 2 parts stores said it was good I bought a new one and still no start. I then had daughter cranck the truck while I pushed the schader valve on fuel line and nothing comes out. I found another Thread where someone had the same problem and was told to disconnect 60 pin connector at the PCM and if you have spark the PCM is bad. It started raining so I am going to pull PCM tommorrow and get tested . If this is in fact true hoopefully it will work.
I removed the 60 pin connector from the PCM and check for grounds at pin 40 & 60 a nd power at 1, 37 and 57. Also had spark again. So I pulled the PCM and opened it up and it had been on fire. Getting a new one ordered. Thanks everyone for your help.
