Engine Heater / Engine Block Heater

I have a 99 Ranger 3.0 V6 Flex Fuel with factory engine block heater (the kind you plug into 120v for cold nights). Last winter I noticed some arcing near the plug, an obvious fire hazard. I cut back as far as I could to put a new plug on but I couldn't get to clean, un-oxidized wire. I did my best cleaning and soldering a new end on, but I don't trust it. Can anybody give me clues what my options are? Do I have to replace the whole heater, and where would I find one? Can I find a pigtail only? Is it a dealer part? The temps are supposed to be around 0's F. the next few nights. Sometimes I do my best work under a tight deadline. Other times procrastination just sucks!

You just need to plug in a new pigtail at the block heater. Might be able to find one in a junk yard? A new dealer heater and pigtail would be something around $35. Try removing the old pigtail and splicing in a new plug with about a foot of existing wiring on a good plug. Use heat shrink tubing to seal the connection to weather.
