Heater problem

2004 F-250 6.0. No heat under 1000 RPM. Above that it'll run you out of the cab.

Thermostat stuck open? If it's a crew cab maybe the valve on the heater line isn't opening all the way?

Standard cab, new thermostat. Both heater hoses stay cold until 1000 RPM. Instant HOT after that.

Maybe the heater core needs flushing?

Been there, done that. Appears to have full flow. Thought the impeller on the water pump was falling apart, (have seen gassers act this way) pulled pump and no apparent problems. Like I said, above 1000 RPM the heater core is HOT all the way through.

Maybe and air pocket? I would have said blend door, but your saying the heater hoses aren't getting warm until after the engine gets over 1k rpm. I still question your thermostat....regardless how new it is. There are bad parts that get through from time to time.

It's very possible you were in the right area to start with in the pump area but not the pump itself. Sometimes the cover gets cavitated and won't pump the correct amount of water. It takes very little wear to bypass. Does your 04 have an 03 motor, which would have the small pump anyway??

Then someone went backwards because mine is an 04-- 10/03 production date with the large pump--ICP on valve cover.

Yup ..... 9/30/03 engines and above got the 100mm pump (larger).

Also - I would make sure the tensioner is working and the belt isn't slipping.

Manufacture date 4/04, ICP on valve cover, uses same water pump as the '03, according to part#. I always seem to get the oddball.

It should be a 100mm pump, which is the big one.
