[quote=zhilton;11309223]Thermostat stuck open? If it's a crew cab maybe the valve on the heater line isn't opening all the way?[/quot

Where in the line is that valve that you are speaking of?

I take it that the crew cab is the only one with valve in heater hose?

Yes. I don't think the extended cab trucks have them either.

If you had one, it would be right behind the oil fill standpipe on the passenger side valve cover. (I'll see if I can find a photo of one).

As far as I'm aware, only the crew cab trucks got it. I'm not aware of any other trucks that had it. Though I guess it wouldn't be hard to retrofit to the others. The vacuum line would be there and you'd only have to splice it into the heater core's supply hose (the upper of the two).

Hey Tim, wasn't there some discussion a couple of weeks ago about the failure rate on thermostats in the 6.0L? Seems like they have a bad habit of sticking open when they go....which the more I think about it, ain't a bad idea if they're going to fail.

They are designed to fail that way to keep a vehicle from "burning up". Better for it to run too cool and run bad than not run at all.

The coolant flow valve is on Crew Cab trucks and Excursions up to 2004. From 2005 on they are on all trucks and Excurions. They default open by a spring and are closed by vacuum when the heater control **** is in the OFF or MAX A/C position.

I didn't know about the newer vehicles. That goes in my "Learned something new today" file. Thanks D.

Going to change heater core on Monday. Back-flushed it again today and it was plugged /stopped up once again. I believe I've got this one whipped.
