How hard was removing the down pipe? I thought someone said the tranny mounts had to be loosened and the motor raised.
We had three guys plus me trying to get that thing out. Pulled tranny all the way to the frame, removed trans dip stick and no dice. Ended up cutting it. if you unbolt the Pitman arm, you MAY be able to, but that SOB wasn't coming out with just tranny and dipstick relocations as mentioned.

Thats what I thought, it's a "saws all" job. And then no option to return to stock. I relooked at the picture and I can see the cut now.
Well, thanks for remembering. I made a choice, only time will tell if it's the right one. It galls me to no end that I have to break the law to get my high dollar truck to run good. Not to be ready to drag race, or sled pull but just to run good. Just to keep the motor oil clean enough to do a good job of lubricating the engine.
Maybe, maybe not. If your 6.4 breaks down tomorrow you can say you made the wrong choice...but did you?? You/we will never know what might have happened if you did do the trade and how things would have gone with the 7.4.
I personally dont feel to bad (read: couldnt care less) about breaking the law by removing the dpf & egr. If we take off the epa coloured glasses we realize its a BS "law", and does more damage than good anyways.

nice, now all ya goota do is dump the egr crap, proably another couple hundred pounds of scrap metal lol
Yesterday's KBB person to person value on that 2002 truck was $24,300. I was too lazy to look at retail but I guess around 27,000 which is what he was asking. It's supply and demand. Last time I looked mine up I think it was right at 30,000 person to person. Of course if you trade with a dealer you will always pay retail and give him your's for wholesale. If he does it any other way he will soon be out of business. So, the even trade was right about where it should have been as far as price. I didn't do it for all the reasons you gave above.

Huh...I'll admit that's lots closer than I would have guessed.
And with that I'd also think that the depreciation on that 7.3L truck is going to be at near new-car levels.

After an hour of trying to remove it whole, I decided I wasn't going through all that trouble to put it back so we busted out the old Reciprocating saw and chopped it off.
If you live in California and you want to do a DPF delete, don't do it. With the EPA and all these tree huggers passing laws on California emissons it will be very risky. if you want a reliable tuner that WILL NOT void your warranty use a Superchips Flashpaq California Series Tuner. These tuners are CARB compliant, wont void your warranty, and come with an extra 2 year powertrain warranty with the tuner. Run a filter back exhaust too for the extra money. The ^^41 series tuners come with a CARB Compliant sticker for when you have to smog your diesel. Dpf deletes are not worth it!!!!

I don't know if you're selling tuners or what but I totally disagree with what you're saying. No tuner that keeps the DPF will resolve the problems inherit with the dpf technology in the 6.4L. The Dpf will continue to clog the exhaust, promote oil growth, use excessive fuel and cause lack luster performance so long as it's in the exhaust. A 6.4 in "stock/dpf off " tune becomes an awesome truck. The only posters who say a DPF on tuner is helpful are those using one. Those who have tuned and deleted know better.
