There isn't a locker in the rear. You need to buy and install one.

Detroit Locker Dana 60, 16 Spline 4.10 and down

Thinking you need this one but not sure. I saw your profile so I think you have a F250. Not sure which D60 you have though. You will need to know what splined axle you have.

A common misconception is that there is a difference between limited slip and posi. They're the same thing. The different manufacturers had many different names for the same thing. Limited slip, posi-traction, sure grip, etc. are all brand names for a "posi" rear. They all work the same way. The exception to the rule is "Locker". These differentials have a tooth and jaw design that actually lock the spider gears mechanically.

If it's not posi, it's an open differential.

My question is why didn't the front left tire spin as well? In 4WD, the right rear AND left front should spin. You may have an issue with the hubs or transfer. To clarify, you DID get out and lock the hubs in, correct? You DID have the transfer case in 4HI, correct?

Next time you get stuck, try dragging the brakes while you ease on the gas. This fools the differential into spinning both tires. If one wheel cannot spin freely, it forces power to the other wheel and will spin both. (until torque applied overcomes brake grab on the right rear) which is why some people think their rear is "limited slip" when it's really an open end differential.
