4x4 questions/help

I did some minor 4 wheeling yesterday and noticed when I got stuck I put the truck into 4 low and the front right tire was just spinning. I had a friend that was there tell me this is a sign that the Hub is bad or going bad, does that make any sense?

One front and one rear tire spins, then it has "open" differentials in each axle and its normal.

Both rears spin but only one front, "open" differential up front, limited slip in the rear, again normal.

yes only way to make both fronts spin is a locker, spool, or welding the spider gears but then hard to turn on pavement.

"poor man's traction control" is to lightly touch the brakes when this is happening. This adds resistance to the "free" wheel and forces the open differential to apply a corresponding amount of power to the "traction" wheel.

If it's just a back wheel spinning, you can put about one notch onto the parking brake to limit the effect to the back wheels - assuming you don't have a limited slip differential.
