Door Adjustments

I've had a problem with my left door adjustment. I could not seem to adjust the striker and stop the rattle of the door unless I adjusted it where the door was actually lifted up on the striker. The passenger door was fine until I broke the plastic(rubber) insulator on the striker. I never really noticed what material it was made out of or even that it had any padding. I have been unable to locate a new one anywhere. Nothing listed in any books. Seems minor but.

Search E-bay 73-79 ford truck parts. I have seen them there.

I don't know if those plastic sleeves are available separately. What you can do is go to your local hardware store/supply and buy a short amount of thin wall 1/2in plastic hose/tubing. Cut it to the right length and then razor cut a diagonal slice down the length. Then just spread it over the door striker.

Might not last 30 years but the price is right....

The Bronco Graveyard has them for $10 each. Here is the link:

Door Latch Striker Plate

Hope it helps. I installed my new ones about two weeks ago. They work great.

The nuts in the door jamb are "captive nuts". You can unscrew the striker pin without worry, the nut has only limited movement for adjustment.

Thanks and I should have known how to fix it. Sometimes you just don't use your head! I will order new/used ones from eBay (the Bronco Grave Yard has 'em in stock) but I did go to the old garage and found a plastic tube from one of my granddaughters toys and cut it to fit. It just happened to be the right diameter. Works fine for now, not sure how long it will last but it will do until I get others to replace. I guess at 63 I just miss the obvious. Thanks again. On to the next project, replace the rear tank filler hoses.

I think you will find the striker plates MUCH more fun. I still grumble when I look at my gas tank. Good luck and tell your Granddaughter that you owe her a new toy.

I think you're right. My old 77 is a daily driver with only 80k and is in original shape. Original paint, interior and motor. I have not had to do much to keep it on the road and most fixes are easy. After a broken shifter housing (column AT) I just decided to put some work in to it to make it a little better. In the past week I have repaired a broken column shifter and put in a new blinker switch, a new seat cover, side mounted (midship) tank, gas lines, mounted a new radio and various and sundre items. The AFT tank should not be a problem. The photo of your 472 makes me want a new motor. Y'all have made it much easier by giving me the help I needed.
Thanks so much!

How can you not like a gentleman that uses "various and sundre" in a sentence. I love it.

Thanks for the complement. The things I need to do are neither special nor noteworthy but the dang things still gotta get done. I'm retired and I need to work on something or sit around and watch old episodes JUSTIFIED. The weather has not been the best for motorcycles so they will take a back seat to the truck. I expect to need your help in the future especially if I do some engine work. AND...I don't have an education so misspelling words like "sundry" will show up when I don't have a spell checker!

It was spelled perfectly. Spell check and I have a love, hate relationship. It loves to tell me I'm wrong ( a great deal of the time) and I hate to admit it when I am. We will all help any way we can if you decide to get engine happy in the future. It's actually pretty fun. Oh, and you did know that JUSTIFIED premiered tonight? I hope you caught it. It is just about the best show on television right now. Take care.

I just caught that it was supposed to be spelled with a "y". If you hadn't let on, I never would have known. English lessons on the FTE, who would have thunk it?

Yep, it's on and I get to watch it twice on FX. Timothy is the new John Wayne and Clint Eastwood all rolled into one! Without a doubt the best show!
Have a good nite!
