Since I just hit a few milestones (5 yrs w/ the truck, 100k miles, and 10,000 posts here on FTE), I am now prepared for some big changes! I thought I would post a poll on custom tunes. I now have an SCT X3 (thanks D8chumley) and will be installing custom tunes very soon.
I was interested in what everyone's favorites were?
This poll may have already been done (and if so I apologize in advance), but I don't recall one. I do know that it has been discussed to death though (lol).
I know that many folks used Spartan for their tunes, but they aren't in the 6.0L business anymore. I did try a canned SCT tune - it was OK, but I am ready to try for a little more performance.
When I get back from this deployment though, I will be giving Vivian and her Looney a run for the money. Nothing against Matt, I just want to see what all the fuss is about
Once I get my motor studded, I want to do the SRL+...it's fun now, I can't imagine more
I've run tunes from all those listed but Jody@DPTuner with the "other" being Bill@PHP (for me). All those listed have good to great performance but to me personally it comes down to transmission shifting, which goes to Bill@PHP. Absolutely the best shifting I've ever run in my truck. Period.
I have tried both Matts and Erics tunes. I prefer the shifting and overall width of the powerband on Erics Agressive Street over Matts SRL. The SRL has great power far more than the agressive street however my EGTs were a little too high in my current setup and the shifting was a little off for my taste. I also didnt much care for the drop in economy over stock with the SRL. With the agressive street for Eric I find the shifting and temps more to my liking there was also a slight gain in economy.
I've only tried two different tunes...Eric's Extreme Street and Matt's SRL. Of those two the SRL file works better for me. I think it has better manners for street driving, and I prefer the shifting characteristics.
yep i like erics also, good shifting been running a modified version of xtreme street for 5 years no headgasket blowouts or actually any engine problems for that matter.
Don't do it!, It will be real hard for you to go back. The first tune i loaded was 120 hp not the 80 tow tune i thought it was .My wife has said our truck has too much power! I call it reserve power for when you want/need it! I remember going back to stock after using a 120 hp tune from innovative, to figure out my turbo issue and it was doggie. I'm using matt's hot tune and im real happy with it
Not trying to hijack the thread, but if we could get some feedback from the guys running a manual tranny I would really appreciate it. Not that I don't like any of the other comments, but most of them are based on the shifting of the auto tranny. So what do people think of the actual performance aspects of these tunes?
