I have heard that replacing the rear speakers is pointless...
What are your opinions? I do carry people and would like them to enjoy the music too.
Also, for you audio folk, I have been thinking how to get some better sound, but I dont want to go crazy. I'm not into BOOM BOOM BOOM. I listen to my music, not feel it.
Would an amplifier benefit me if I dont have a sub? I'm not really interested in a sub. I have an aftermarket head unit, and front speakers. I'm looking at a good 4 channel amp for the 4 speakers, but dont want to waste the money if there is no point with out a sub.
Having an amplifier will always make your speakers sound better. The key to good sound is quality components. A good set of 6.5" component speakers(separate tweeters from speakers) will provide plenty of bass and still produce the mids and highs you are looking for. The key is the crossover that keeps the signals going to the right components.
Don't skimp on a cheap amp with lots of wattage, get a higher quality amp with real wattage and you will be happy. The cool part is you can build it as time and funding allows. Having something like 50-100 watts per channel will make a huge difference when listening on tight speakers. Here is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 400 (refurbished) for $209. Great quality and not a bad price.
This style of set-up is what I have always had in trucks. At most a pair of 8" subs tucked away for a little more bass (no thumping). This type of system will provide a better sound and will sound tight. IMO it is much better than most of the systems hear rattling down the road.
The problem with 3 way speakers is you have no way of controlling the sounds to each speaker. You could cut the wires and wire in crossovers to make it work. Most just don't do that. You can use them with an amp. They will sound better than they do now with the stereo now.

The amp I am looking at says it has a cross over in it. So that should work, right?
I'm thinking I will buy the amp, wire it in, and do tweeters next. Then I can just add them to my current system.
Depends on how the crossover in that amp works. A crossover on a component system splits the signal to each component. An amp usually just sends the Lows (bass) to the subs and the highs to the other speakers.
Looks like a good amp. The crossover function of it will basically separate lows from highs like I thought. It will be good for your current setup. Your 3 way speakers probably have a little bit of segregation of the frequency so it will make them sound good.
Cool. I think I will get the amp and try it. Everything in my truck (so far) is Pioneer. Not on purpose. I just read reviews and buy for my needs in my price range. So far Pioneer has dominated "Bang VS Buck" category. If I need to later I can add a cross over plus tweeters. But like I said earlier, not looking to go crazy here. The only reason I am considering tweeters over a sub is space and money. Tweeters are just easy enought to say "why not."
IMO, the only way to get great tunes outta your truck is to go with subs and an amp. I was totally against the idea for years and boy was I wrong. Makes those long trips MUCH more enjoyable. They make boxes that fit right behind the rear seat on our truck for a nice clean fit.
