ac compressor

Hi guys I have 01 f250 v10 the ac clutch is out and the front housing that the clutch slides on is bad. Can I change out the compressor and not recharge for a few days. Will it hurt anything to drive this way? It's getting late already and kind of need the vehicle. Thanks for the help

you don't need freon, you just can't get cold air. Make sure you fill compressor with PAG 46 oil first. As long as you have the oil in it, it won't hurt. Obviously don't drive with your AC turned on without freon in it.

I just swapped mine out this week. If you have an advance auto near your, place your order online, us the promo code VISA, and it will save you $50. I bought the Factory New AC compressor and PAG46 oil for $160 something after taxes. The Compressor alone is $193.99. Just place order online, but select IN STORE PICK UP, go pick it up after you order it.

Been running mine without freon for a couple days now. Don't need it YET since its perfect weather down here in South Texas.

Goodluck

If your A/C clutch is all that is wrong, you don't need a new compressor. Just replace the clutch and or pulley.

That is what I thought I would do at first but after looking it over I noticed that the sleve that the clutch slides over was cracked. It is the part of the pump that the snap ring slides onto so there would be no way of putting the snap ring back on to hold the clutch in place. Dont see any around it but replacing the compressor. If anyone has any ideas thanks.

I just completed this job on my 94 f150. New everything, all lines, accumulator, fixed orifice tube, condenser, compressor, evaporator.

Brought it to a shop to get recharged, no leaks and everything works as it should.

If you replace everything like I did, you do need to add oil to each of the components.
