I have been kicking around the idea of towing my racecar with an E350. I have towed with Duallys in the past, but the lack of lockable storage was always an issue. I picked up this 91 E350 with a 460 and 4.10 gears for $500.00. I bought it from the son of the original owner. It's perfectly straight, no rust, the interior has very little wear, runs great, and it already has a hitch and brake controller. The odometer reads 000341. By the condition of it, I have to assume that it's 100341.
Not on the road yet, but I did take it drifting around my streets, and it does great! Plenty of torque to swing the *** end out, but also moves around very well in deep snow!
I have a '88 E250 extended van. It has with the same body style and blue interior. Yours looks like it has more options though.
I have the 5.8L and use it to tow my race car mostly and to move stuff when it needs to be moved. I only have one bench seat behind the front seats so it only will seat 5 but that's really all I need. That gives me about 7 feet of cargo space behind the seats. If I carry some of my racing stuff in the car itself I have enough room to sleep on the floor in the back.
You got a great deal on that van!! I wish I could find an E350 in that shape for that price!!! The very few I come across are rusted out and two to three times more expensive!
I say you'll get 10 MPG towing, but you'll not wear it out, I'd love 4.10's for my 99, the 5.4 is a monster, but 3.50's and it's weight dog it in the city, you got a nice van.
Earlier this week, I took it on a short road trip and averaged 13.1 MPG. Not to bad considering the 4.10's and big block.
That's pretty good, a little more than my 92 EFI460 got, and you have the comfort of knowing it really won't change no matter whether you're hauling 10 lbs. or 10,000 lbs. Mine got about 12 i think, and with a 31' camper behind it at about 7500 lbs., i think it got 10.5 or 11.
