Can anyone tell me if there are any differences between an early 80's f-250 4wd frame versus a 2wd. I have a 4wd truck now and the frame is shot but I have access to a nice 2wd frame from the same era that I could use if there arent a lot of differences. Im mostly concerned about length, width and front leaf springs mounts being different. Thanks for the help
The F250/F350 2wd are coil spring front, while 4wd has leaf.
Has this been about a F150, there is no difference between 2wd/4wd frames, as they both have coil springs. The F250/F350 is a totally different ball of wax.
The frame is really not too different. The only part different is where the front of the leaf springs mount. The frame will have to be boxed there. Everything else just involves drilling holes. The geometry is so different. Hold on and i'll have the article for you on the conversion.
Yes, if you use the 2wd frame you will have to make/modify the front shackle mount, and drill holes for the rear spring mount for the front springs. You will also need to transfer your ttb swing arm brackets from your frame to the 2wd frame after you take the 2wd brackets off.
Some people buy a shackle reversal kit when converting or using a 2wd frame, and it avoids the shackle problem on the front, and gives you some lift also. But if you do this, you need to get lift brackets if you are keeping the ttb axle. Most people convert to the dana 60 straight axle.
