I doubt it's the shocks because they were replaced under a 1 1/2 years ago. I will check though. Thanx for the suggestion!
One thing I thought of....After we replaced the radius arm bushing on the left side, the sound did go away for about a day, then came back and has been there ever since.
My 196 ford f150 xlt does the clunk when im taking off really hard . I tightened all my nuts and bolts and then found out it was the bushings. and OH!boy! did I have fun with that project . I must have cussed my truck for 9 or 10 hours but no more clunk. the upper and lower bushings were a pain to get out but its worth it not to here the clunk!!
I have the same problem on my truck. My is a 94 F-150 4X4. I replaced the auto lockout with Superwinch manuals, it has new shocks, I have checked and tighted all of the tranny and cross member bolts, the radius arm bushings are fine (or so says the mech.), the ball joints, tie rodends, wheel bearings, U-joints were all replaced about 20,000 miles ago. What next??? This has been going on for about 2 years and is getting really sicking. Anything else to check???? Thanks Paul
Your symptoms sound exactly like what I was experiencing with my 86, and it was a radius arm bushing. The hole in the driver side bracket had worn bigger. This caused the new bushings to last only about 5000 miles. I had clunking during hard braking within a couple weeks. New bracket and bushing fixed the problem.
