Hey guys. I have the pleasure of using high speed I-net tonight. At home it's dial up and a lot of times I can't even log on to the web site. Here is my problem. I can't get my exhaust temps past 1150 degrees. Even when pulling a load up a grade. Boost is not a problem. I have done the following mods:
New map sensor, 3" down pipe, rebuilt turbo with 1.0 housing, new fuel pump, dp tuner chip. Truck is a 95 crew dually 4x4 with a 5 speed, 165K miles. I have no past maintenance history to go by. Now I am thinking it may be the HPOP. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have a used Hypermax I-cooler going on this winter so more fuel is in order soon.
Forgot to add that I have been unhappy with the power when towing before and after the mods, especially up grades. When driving empty seems to run great. The probe for the pyrometer is mounted in the exhaust manifold.

Reason: add info
Why do you want your exhaust temps higher? I'm not sure I'm following you here. Good boost and low exhaust temps is good. Do you have the sensor in the drivers side manifold or in the downpipe?
I wouldn't worry about it. If its running good and all I would let it be. The IC is going to bring your temps down more. The stock AA injectors in these trucks just don't run very hot it seems.
Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that with a chip I would get more fuel and therefore higher exhaust temps (more power). This is my first powerstroke and power is down in my opinion. I have read on here that a lot of guys have no trouble pulling their fifth wheels up grades. There were a couple of times this past spring when I was topping hills in 3rd gear at about 25 miles an hour. This doesn't seem right for a diesel with 3.90s.
It's either got 4.10's or 3.55's unless someone changed them. I don't think you can even get a 3.90 gear for the sterling rear end. What rpms you running at 65?
How heavy of a fiver you have? What grade of hill?
What tunes do you have on your chip? Have you tried all the settings? How much boost are you hitting? Jody may have the tunes set so you can't get above 1200. 1250 or so is the melting point of the pistons.
Where's the thermocoupler for your pyrometer located? If it's after the turbo you could be over 1500* in the head, and that's way to hot for a sustained temp.

Depends on the chip and the injectors. Tony's chip I can bury my gauge. The first go around with Beans chip (first burn) I could run all day with my foot on the floor.
After I rebuilt the turbo I can bury my 15 psi gauge. I know I have to buy a new gauge, but it was what I had laying around at the time. I am towing a 40 foot toy hauler. 16K loaded. I thought the gears were 3.55 also going by the axle code. According to all the gear calculators I have used it comes out to 3.90, 2000 rpms at 60mph. I am going to have to pull the covers and look I guess.

I run 2000 rpms at about 60 mph and I have 4.10's if I'm not mistaken (no load)
The tuner that Jody sent me has a tow mode, 20hp if I remember correctly. Even with the switch in the stock position I get the same temperature range. Last time I tested it with the 5th wheel hooked up I put the switch in the 80hp performance mode thinking I should be able to get the exhaust temp up a little, same result as in stock or tow mode. I wonder if the chip still is limiting fuel in the stock mode to protect the motor? Who knows. I can't seem to get in touch with any one at DP. Diane answered me once and said I probably had an exhaust leak? I have that thing apart and together numerous times and there are no leaks.
