I have a 2010 ford sd cc long bed with 6.4 diesel. My question is what's the biggest size tire i can get on my stock 18 inch rims. I've searched the forum but couldn't seem to find my answer.
Thanks in advance, Donovan
The problem is the 8" width of the stock wheel. The tire manufacterer recommends a wheel width for a particular tire, and for the tire you'll be wanting it isn't 8". More like 9" or 10". There are plenty of guys who put 35x12.50 tires on the stock wheels anyway. Wear issues and or load handling issues could be a problem so be aware of that. We all do alot of things we're not "supposed" to do to our trucks. 35x12.50 will fit on a stock truck of your year.

I would post in the 6.4 section for a faster responce
You can usually goto any tire manufacturers website and get recommendations. For instance, on Toyo's website this is the largest I could find for a standard (8in) wheel.
.................... Tire Size ................................. Approved Rim Size........ Dia
LT285/75R18 129S E/10 (35X11.5R18) ........... 7.5-8.0-9.0 .............. 34.8
Again, this is the manufacturers recommendation. What you do is up to you.
A set of tire chains would eat up that inch pretty quickly.
funny you mention that, I just moved back to PA this summer, Everywhere I have been has been minimal to no snow.... So I say man I cant wait for some snow, and everyone is like well you will get you fill here. Well here it is... Jan 13th and we have had record warm weather and no friggin snow!
It's a La Nina year, weather is significantly warmer and drier than usual, probably will have a very wet Spring to compensate.
As another person mentioned, Toyo and a few others have a 285/75r18, which is a narrow 35" tire and a great option for stock wheels and just a leveling kit, maybe stock height on '08+ rigs. I wouldn't go much wider on an 8" rim.
Thanks for all the in-put guys. My truck is lifted two inches and currently has 295/65R18 goodyear duratrac's on it and they just look tiny. I've had a couple people tell me they look too small and I've only had the truck since just before Christmas.
What's a reputable place to get some wheels so i could safely get bigger tires?
