So what it's a Dodge now? I wonder if the wiper linkage will fit then. I think Dodges has a job rated emblem in the center of the grill on the early fifty's trucks. I've gotten pretty good at spotting trucks and getting the years right.
... 54 is way cool. They have the "UGLY" grill and they (probably because of the grill) have the lowest production number of the 53 to 56's. ... since you all agree I must be a winner because I have a 54. Thank you. Thank you. ....
Hey my truck is rarer than yours Kai only about 4000 '51 Mercury M-3's were made. What is wrong with the '54 grill it has character. The 53,55,56 grills look to much the same.
Ok Ok Nathan, ... you won and I am second. Good enough. Fortunately we don't have a 56. There's just way too many out there. Whenever you park it at the mall you have to exactly remember the spot you parked in. Otherwise you'll never find it again between all the other 56s. LOL LOL LOL
I guess I never took the time to learn the differences, but besides the curved windshields on 56's the 53-56's all look the same to me.
Not like the 48-50's that are SO different.
Actually, I have to change my earlier post about no differences between 48's and 49's and 50's. Some time in 50 they started putting smooth bedsides like 51 and 52 on instead of the raised panel like 48 and 49. So if it looks like a 48-50 with smooth bedsides it is a 50.
I can tell the difference between them. The 53 custom cabs had teeth, 54 grills had buck teeth, the 55 sloped in and the 56 has a curved middle bar. The 53 and 56 look the same at a distance and zooming past you. Now leave my glasses alone I just got them repaired.
I don't think they changed the bedsides midway through 50. I do know they changed tailgates midway though. They moved the top chain catch.
There's a '54 in my home town that has a lot of extra trim on the front and it looks real nice compared to the normal '54s, maybe even better that the '56's grill. Personaly I like the '55 grill the best of the bunch. The indention just makes it better.
I like the bed and rear window of the '48-'50s the most, and the front end and dash of the '52. About the only features of the '53-56 that I like is the roll at the bottom of the cab and the '56 dash (bet you thought I'd say the windshield, heh heh).

ps. There was only around 3,000 of the '41s like mine made, but I guess it doesn't count. It's tons of fun finding parts.
The 54 grill gets a bad rap in my view. I think they look nice with the right color combination. It is a huge grill though. Pick a bad color combo and there is no hiding your error.
I am starting to notice the 53 model is getting a thumpin' from the lesser models on this poll. I knew the "belly button" model year was going to win but come on, Kenny and Daryl's fridges are getting more votes.
The '55 grille ain't bad but the '54 grille has more character than all of the '53-'56. It is the only one with depth. It can be seen from the side view of the truck. I think the grille color might have something to do with it. The original color was sungate ivory so that (according to the Ford brochure) "it is a neutral color that goes well with all body colors."
