Turn signal unit interchangeability?

Is the turn signal unit the same on a '79 manual transmission as a '77 automatic transmission? I picked one up from the '79 to replace my busted one since the steering wheel was already off at the junkyard, but I'm not really sure if the auto tranny with the column shifter makes it different.

Thanks

Z

On LMC Trucks they sell two different turn signal switches, one for automatic trans and one for standard. here is the link:

Take a close look at it and you may want to spend a little time matching wires. It may just be that the only difference is the addition of bulb and wires for the gear selector indicator. I think the return portion is the same.

Edit: Well after reading your post again it looks like the JY truck was the manual shift so at the very least you may not have the light

Provided the plastic ears are just broken you can replace that part of the switch with this part. Usually on the fix-it rack at most auto parts store for about $12.00. Not extremely difficult to put in but the existing wires end up very short cutting the old one out....
