AC QUESTION

Hey how is everybody today. I have a question about my AC I have a 77 reg cab 2WD with a 460 and a C6. It has a dealer installed AC and most of it is under the dash. It seems to be complete even has a belt on the compressor. (I wish I could take picture, but someone in Arizona needed my phone more than I did.) My question is can anyone work on it or should I look for someone that specializes in older AC's? Two can it be converted to the newer freon thats not a million dollars a pound? and three it has the switches under neith the center vents the fan one is there, but the one for city and hwy is broke off, is there somewhere I can get one or can I get by with out it. I check LMC and they didnt have one in the catalog, actually there is not much for dealer installed AC's. Once again thank you but when it is 115 an AC would be nice as long as I don't go to far 2 MPG's won't get me far.

It can be converted to the R134a refrigerant. Any decent a/c shop should be able to work on it.
Is the **** missing and the shaft still there or is the shaft and **** broken off? If just the **** is missing, you can replace it with anything that will fit. If the switch itself is damaged, the a/c shop should be able to fix you up.
Also, is this DEALER installed air (it will have the Ford logo on the control panel) or an aftermarket unit(Mark IV, Sears, etc.).

The switches on my truck are located just under the center vent threre is one switch for Fan and the one that is broke and the shaft is broke is TEMP and says off HWY and CITY. The switches are actually on the dash but not with the heater controls those are seperate. Its not a under dash unit I have vents in the dash but the hole unit is behind the dash and I don't have a dog house under my hood the ac and heater hoses plumb into the fire wall

If the A/C is marked HWY and CITY, it is not a genuine Ford dealer installed A/C unit, it's aftermarket.

1973/79 F100/350: There are TWO different types of Ford Dealer installed A/C, Deluxe & Economy.

1) Deluxe A/C is combined with the heater. The two A/C switches mount into the HUGE dash bezel that sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the glove box.

There is a separate "hang-on" glove box, bolts to the bottom of the dash.

2) Economy A/C is not combined with the heater. The two A/C switches mount into a panel that also contains two A/C registers.

This panel fits into the dash, to the left of the extant glove box.
