Seriously, has this world gotten so bad that you can't leave stuff outside your own back door? I took out two jerry cans from my bed to haul yesterday and tucked them against my back door. I went to grab them today and guess what... they're gone. Really???? Thieves suck. That's it, just needed to vent.
I understand. My neighborhood turned into thief central a few yrs ago. I used to keep a 1 gal can of gas in my truck to fuel up small equipment. I bet I had 3-4 of them stolen in the 2 yrs.
I buy motor oil by the drum. So whenever I am not doing an oil change at the shop I put oil in some containers to bring home . Whenever I change the oil in one of the diesel trucks It takes 3-4 gallons so I use whatever clean containers I have on hand. I used a 1 gallon gas can to put a gallon of oil in. I left it in the back of my truck that night and it got stolen. The next day there was a car on the side of the road just as you leave the neighborhood. I assumed it was whoever took the gas cans car. As bad as I wanted to vandalize or damage it I couldnt b/c even if it was the thieves car It would still make me the criminal too.
Bruno, they got what they deserved. My uncle had the same problem so he set out a dummy can with a gas/sugar mixture. They only stole from him one more time...
Being from "smaller town" ND, we never really had an issue when I was growing up. Matter of fact I never even had a key to my parents house!! Doors just always open. Actually, as I sit here and type at work, my keys are still hanging in the ignition of my truck!! I only take them out at night.
UNFORTUNATELY.... we are feeling the negative effects of this huge oil boom as of late. Alot of (I hate to call it "rift-raft" but thats what I think) people coming to the state to work who dont hold the same "morals" as native "mid westerners" do who have no intentions of staying here long term and treat our state and towns like "rentals."
Up until about a year ago, I dont think the doors on my house even knew what "locked" meant. Slowly trying to train myself the other way.
I hear ya. Another uncle lives in Bismark and told me that it's insane up there now. The roads are shot because they weren't designed with that much heavy truck traffic in mind and the people are crazy. It can't last forever. This winter will see who will stay... ND is cold!!!
Besides having gas siphoned out of two of my trucks before (what needed locking gas caps, got 'em), I've never had any problems before. What gets me the most is that it was likely a neighbor and I don't like feeling like I can't trust them. Oh well. Thanks for letting me vent guys.
