Ok so I got a 77 250 crew 4x4 with the 400/4speed/205 and it feels like I need to find 5th gear at highway speed so
1- was thinking of a zf but was wondering if it is a simple swap, or is it a in depth ordeal with driveline fab, crossmember work, adapters ect....
I put a small block zf in my bronco and everything had to change
2- also want to get a pto winch going but have no clue what brand/model to look for when I search craigslist and eBay
I had a 77 supercab that I was gonna do a mt swap. I looked for a very long time for a ZF and never found one on craigslist. I think it was for the simple fact of there were not many 460 5 speed trucks in my area. 460 ZF's will bolt up to a 351m/400 block. If you got one out of a 4x4 then it already should have a 205 on it. The newer trucks run bigger yokes than ours and the local driveline shop suggested to upgrade all yokes on the truck. If I remember from looking under my father-in-law's super duty it's also a longer trans and t-case, a new cross member will need to be made. I don't know anything about the winch so can't help you there.
