I've found that most of the "obsolete" tools I buy for pennies on the dollar at flea markets tend to stay with me longer than most new stuff. I still use a 1948 Williams B-52 ratchet for 8 hours a day and it works great.
Old tools are sometimes slightly more robust than modern equipment.
Here's an itty-bitty old buzzbox welder I got for 250 bucks which works great. (Keep a look out for Millers resembling it since most are single phase!) The liftgate (also old and used, swapped a hard drive install for it) came in handy:

Wow thats some old ones I don't see in this part of the country, they either returned to the earth or have been made into oh.. a washing machine or something.
