Personally I think it is a huge waste of time. and Money. A good tune up and a timing bump will do the same as a chip for these trucks.

Over the counter chips are a waste , but a tuner or custom chip on a modified truck are worth there weight in gold , best to put it into a nice exhaust system....Lew

Yea you can accomplish the same thing for couple bucks that that top dollar chip does.

Bump the timing couple degrees, right up to the point before spark knock.

Then install a resistor in place of the ECT sensor, make the computer think the engine is cold all the time.

That's not such a great idea, it'll result in increased fuel consumption and engine wear and it's not even necessary, the computer goes open loop and adds more fuel any time engine load goes over ~60% anyway.

So yall think its a waste of money? idk im still undecided i mean hypertech is a good brand for chips, not like one of those 50$ ones that claim you will get 50 hp increase and mpg increase. But then again im not real reliant on a chip giving big improvements

Oh no guess I shoulda added that, wasn't my intent to make it sound like it was a good idea.

No.. we know it's a waste of money. The computers in these trucks are really primitive and simply don't have the amount of control that one does in a newer vehicle, so there simply isn't much to be gained with a chip. And on top of that any gains you could get with it can also be realized for free by simply advancing the timing at the distributor.

With these engines its a hardware issue, not software. If you want power/mpgs, you need headers, to ditch that y pipe, and then pop in a cam. You can even keep your SD system. Factory intake is a CAI, and a pretty well designed one at that. Don't waste your time/money with an aftermarket one. Also a 6liter tune up can do wonders.

Alright thanks yall now im pretty convinced that the chip is worthless. I might advance the timing that yall said. the price of the chip is the price of some Hedman longtube headers i found. Thanks!

Get Pacesetter 70-2221, not the Hedmans. Beside some recent QC issues on here (IIRC), only those pacesetters will clear the tranny cross reliably.

Gedetings,

Hope you all don't mind me asking a stupid question. What is "QC" and "IIRC"? I have seen them used a few times and don't know what they are short for.

Thanks,
Gary
