Today I was having issues with the truck would die every time I went to stop. Fired right back up with no problem. Why would it die when coming to a stop... I'm baffled. It is cmpletey serviced. Truck is a 92 superduty 7.3w/ a 5 speed
When I first bought my '92 it would do this. The dealers 'mechanic' could not figure it out. Got tired of waiting on him so I took it home and starting poking around under the hood. Found the fuel filter hadn't been changed since forever and was completely full of water. New fuel filter, no more problem.
That would be my first thought and I did replace my filter last week prior to having this problem it was full of crap... and I mean full so doubt thats the problem...
My guess would be that you have a sticking governor. You could try this. Get some Diesel Kleen (or other good fuel injector cleaner), remove fuel filter and empty contents, if full of crud again get a new filter. Fill the filter with Diesel Kleen (toss the rest in the tank) and refit it. Start the engine and let it run for 30secs and shut it off. Now let it sit for several hours, overnight is better. Then start it and drive it and see if any improvement.
