I had my fuel filter changed at Jiffy Lube and within 6 months I had a no start problem. towed it to the dealer and they said that the aftermarket fuel filter (Fram) caused the problem. Apparently Fram filters are a little taller than oem filters and Fram includes a new top to match the new filter.Jiffy lube put in a new filter and used the stock Ford cap. They said that the Filter pushed down on the heating element, eventually shorting it out. Causing the no start. Cost me $1100.00 to get it fixed. HAs anyone else had any similar problem or heard of anything like this. I would love to go back to Jiffy Lube and try and recoup some of my expense on this. Thanks, Tom
The fuel heaters go out. Just the way it is. No big deal to diagnose and replace. This isn't Fram's fault.
Now, if I'm not mistaken, the pre-99 Powerstroke filters are a little taller, though I don't know how much without doing a bit of research. Maybe Jiffy-Pop, errr....Lube, put the wrong one in and just jammed it down.
As Mike said directly above......

Thanks Guys. I have only had this truck a few years and it is my first diesel. I guess I really need to learn more about these things. Or find a mechanic I can trust.
Stick around here. Three years ago, I was in your shoes and didn't know the first thing about my engine.
As a result of what I've learned here, I wouldn't hesitate to tackle virtually anything on this truck (with the possible exception of "setting up" differential gears).
There are things I wouldn't WANT to do, but I could if I HAD to.
You's got a friend at FTE.
