Bad oil leak
#16
Dumb question, and please don't take offense.
Was the engine warm or hot when you washed it? Had a kid try and sell me his honda after he cracked his cyl head power washing his recently driven car in 30 degree temps. At first he didn't noticed it was cracked until he went out the next morning and there was fluids all over his garage. Good deal, but I'm all stocked up on cars at the moment. LOL
Hope you get it fixed.

No the motor was cold truck had sat for two days and it was in the low 70's here last Sunday when I washed it. I just picked it up from Ford and drove it home and there's not one drop of oil dripping right now also Monday when I took it there I got out and looked and it wasn;t dripping then either and yes it has oil in it they said they added a dye to the oil to find the leak and said it's coming from the head gasket.

Engine
I may need to replace the 5.4 in my 2000 F250. Just curious if anyone has a good source for engines? The Ford catalog has them for $3,600. I wonder what a good shop usually charges to install an engine? I called two Ford dealerships and one quoted $6,000 out the door. The other quoted $4,500-$5,000. I've found a few used engines online with about 45,000 miles for $1,500.

Call around to your local engine Exchange. You can get a remanufactured engine for 2500. I got an ARE engine. A remanufactured engine is different than a rebuild. A remaned engine consists of all new parts inside and out. Rebored and everything. When a engine is rebuilt, the mechanic goes in and repairs only what the engine needs to run correctly.
