Driving an 02 Excursion with the 7.3.

Just yesterday I got a P1249 Wastegate Control Valve Performance code and the P1316 code.

I cleared the codes and in about 3 miles the engine light came on again and it was the P1316 again...this time it didn't have the description (different Advance Store).

I am leaving in the early am on a 300 mile trip. What I am wondering is if the truck is running good...could this code be thrown for some other reason than the 25cent fix problem?

Also...if she is running fine now what are the odds she will run fine tomorrow? Just need to do this trip for work...then I will be able to get under the hood.

Welcome to FTE. Usually when the P1316 code shows up, other symptoms also show up about the same time. The UVCH is the most common problem that trips this code and is also fairly easy to fix. I'd at least bring a multi-meter and the tools with you that are required to fix this if you have to do so along the way.

Now that being said, most of the parts store free scans don't work on our engines. Are you 100% sure it was a P1316? With it being an Ex, a common code that will trip the light but not make the truck run any different would be a glow plug or GPCM failure.

A quick test with a multi-meter tonight might clue you in to what you're dealing with. Did you find how to ohm the connectors in your search or do you need the info?
