DIY Bumper Grille '11 F150, Expanded steel

Hey Guys - Hated the big opening in the bumper of my 2011 Eco and I saw this idea posted on another forum. Not sure if its been posted here, but thought it was a cool, easy, DIY mod and thought I post some pics.

Basically you buy a piece of expanded steel - its in the hardware aisle of Homedepot by the threaded rods, and costs about 10 bucks.

It doesnt come painted - but I took the pics AFTER painting it, and I'd suggest you do that after you cut and bent it into shape.

You can cut it with tin snips. I cut it so I'd have enough to bend a few inches over, making it 5 inch by 20 inches. Be careful because the edges can be quite sharp, so you can easily cut yourself, or worse - scratch the truck!

After its bent - do a test fit. Be careful not to scratch the plastic bumper.

I painted mine with gloss black (3 coats) and then clear-coated it (3 coats).

I attached it by using black zip ties in the top mount holes and the bottom 2 tabs.

Installed:

Not suggesting it looks as great as one you can buy made to fit. But for about 10 bucks + paint, I think its a cool DIY project.
