My christmas present to my self arrived yesterday, surprised that fed ex delivered on Saturday but I got the Ford AIS intake for my early 99. The previous owner had put the 99.5 factory filter box/air hose on but I could tell the clips were not too far from breaking off plus it was a real pain in the ### to get the lid back on correctly. I decided that a new filter was needed and as many of you know the only two choices for the early 99 are the Ford AIS or the 6637 kit. I know the 6637 is a lot less expensive and no offense to anyone running one, but to me they look too home made and cheap compared to the Ford piece. Plus you really can't go wrong with puting OEM Ford parts on. The install only took about 45 minutes to complete and the hardest part I think was getting the old filter box and duck work out as there is not much room to work in that area.
I must say it is a really nice additon, all the parts needed for the install were included along with the filter element. The instructions were ok, but the removal and install is pretty striaght forward.
I really like mine. I actually went from a 6637 to the AIS because of noise, sounded like a 300 hp shop vac. My 38r turbo pulls the indicator in almost to the red so I got a fender sleeve on the bench waiting for me to put it in.
Jeff I too have a e99 and I have a K&N drop in but I want to go to the AIS. I am in the middle of rebuilding my turbo and to be honest the K&N wasn't a problem "No dusting" But the stock box I had drilled and safety wired it closed. I had some dusting when it had the oem filter and ill fitting stock box. The stock box is junk !
And was wondering did you get the kit for a e99 with intake tube? Is it any louder than the stockbox ? And who did you get it from ?
Well it looks nice and I am sure you turbo thanks you

The previous owner installed the newer 99.5 and up filter box so I did not have the early 99 filter housing. In order to use the newer 99.5 air box with rectangular box it had to have the matching hose from the turbo to the filter box. I just ordered the AIS kit since I had the correct hose from the turbo to the filter box.
I got my kit though Jegs and it is the FA1759 Motorcraft kit. I went this way since I had received several gift cards for Christmas from them so out of my pocket I wanst into much more than I would have been if I went with the 6637 filter kit. I have learned over the years that if you have a part number you can type it into Jeg's online website and a lot of time you can find and order the stuff through them. I have bought performance parts from them for 15 years now and have always had good luck and good customer service from them. I know some people have had the oppisite result but for me its been all good.
I just put it on this morning and I havent driven it yet so I can't comment on sound or anything else comparing it to stock. Maybe I should have waited until my gauges get here later next week to install this kit so I could see if my EGT's changed from the stock box to this one.
Jeff, I see you are in Billings. I get over there almost daily. I would be cool to meet up for coffee some day.
Ed, the cheapest place I have seen the AIS is from Clay. He can prolly also get the intake hose for you. Give him a call. Riffraff Diesel: Ford AIS Extended Life Filter Kit I see he has the hose as an option.

Yep, the intake boots are in stock and an option on the link you provided.
I installed my AIS with the optional Sleeve about 5 years ago on my 2002 F350. The 7.3 runs better and the AIS works well with the MBRP exhaust. I will be calling Clay at Riffraff soon for another AIS filter and a few fuel filters also.

Do mean to tell us you have gotten 5yrs out of the filter ? If so how many miles did you get out of the filter ?
And for everyone else how many miles are you getting out of your AIS filters ? Thanks

Same filter for 5 years, but my truck isn't a daily driver anymore. But it has seen it's share of dusty roads and dirt. About 30,000 miles on the filter.
I've had this on mine since I bought the truck used, so I don't know the difference of stock vs. this - but I have zero problems with plenty of boost. I've only replaced the filter once for $100 at the dealership. Since I don't know how long the filter was there before I bought it, I can only say I've had the truck for 14 months as of this post.
I made my own fender sleeve and I've been running that for about 6 months.

Brother, you need to take that K&N out of there ASAP, even if it's just to put in an OEM paper filter. If it's the drop-in box filter, they are notorious for leaking on the short sides of the rectangle, because the rubber gets pinched or bowed in slightly. That means dust and debris are going straight into your engine. Check your turbo fins for signs of sandblasting type of wear.
As for longevity of the AIS filter, it's usually good for 40-50k miles, unless you live in a high dust environment. In Houston area, we have low dust, so I get many, many years out of the filters. I've had an AIS since they first came out for our trucks, and haven't regretted it. I even replaced a K&N Stage 1 conical filter system with an AIS on "HIS" truck when I bought it. Great product with excellent air flow and superior filtration.
