Reps +1. Just being willing to haul up there and help is worth points. Dang, after reading this saga, I shoulda packed our spare PCM and IDM on our WI->FL trip last August.
(Faaaah, that d@mn Eagles song is still stuck in my head....)
I just read this thread, I dont know how I missed. More rep sent to PaysonPSD. The moral support its very important in this cases, ask me how I know.
Glad to hear that he is on the road again.
I don't want any of you to get the wrong impression of the extent of my help. All I did was talk to him on the phone and go over a few options. It sounded like he had some great Winslow locals helping out and they did indeed come through for him.
The reps were really unnecessary, but appreciated. Thanks.
Ok sorry I did not up date you all sooner but I had trouble finding a connection...
We made it to Texas smooth as silk .. If you count driving till 3 am then sleeping in the trailer for 3 hours then hitting the road again.
Every ones help was so important to us getting on the road...
And you all might get to see your work on TV! We were bringing the horse to tx for a show that will be on fox sports... So as soon as I find out the show dates I will post so you can see the truck in action.. The truck and horse trailer were filmed for over an hour yesterday. And it worked great!
So it tuned out to be the idm..
I found a 95. At a repair shop.. It was the shops 7.3 that was not running..
I borrowed their idm took it t ford.. Plugged it in and the truck fired right up.!
I was so happy!
I was able to trade the shop for their idm for my new one coming in.. So we could get on the road.. We took lots of fuel filters and checked the filter every stop. I looked good the whole way,
So now since we are running an old idm I think we will start looking for a spare keep in the truck.
I still don't understand how a clogged fuel filter fried the idm? But I guess it could be not related and the idm went bad..
Thanks for everyones help. It was so nice to have thoughts on how to trouble shoot this.. It got us back on the road so much faster.
Oh yeah we also have been dumping. Lots of additive in the tanks to help keep it clean but so far no more black slime has showed up.
I well keep you up dated if I learn any thing new.. When we turn around and haul back to Nevada,
That's great! Thanks for the update. I'm glad you got her back on the road in time to make your date. I don't think the clogged fuel filter and the bad IDM are related at all. Your filter may never have been completely clogged at all. I would agree that it would be a good practice to carry a spare IDM if you're on the road a long way from home.

I 'm not convinced you had a fuel problem .. May have been something from refueling in a strange town , but you most likely used quite a few tanks on the trip . Most likely a coincidence ..Glad you made it ...
Too bad you didnt have some extra room on your rig to haul another back home with you.. I still need my PS hauled back up here to Wyoming from Arizona! LOL!
(Good thing "The Dude" is not reading this thread......)
Did you save the old IDM? Might be worth an autopsy when you get home. True, the fuel filter issue couldn't have fried the IDM, but maybe the two are both effects of a common cause; maybe some bad fuel, that both gummed up the filter, AND put a strain on the injectors that somehow played haywire with the high voltage from the IDM.

How did you make out with the dealer?...
Good point, but from the description, it sounds like the fuel filter was overdue for changing anyway.
Did we ever determine if the FPR screen had been cleaned? Might be a good time to do that before it causes a problem.
