Put enough money into it and that will always be true. You gotta get past emotional attachments to inanimate objects.
I can tell you with absolute certainty that the truck doesn't give a %^t about you, would kill you given the chance, and would let anyone, even a dirty, sticky stranger, drive it.

The date code goes "year/month/day" as so:
6 = 1976/ J = September / B = doesn't work. Could it be an "8" for the 8th day of the month?
ON EDIT: Ford uses alpha and numeric codes in the date codes. In this case, the "B" would be for the week of the month, "B" being the second week.
Plant code, don't know.

WDM-BR = 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog / Text, Section 40.1, Pages 5-8 = Rear Axle Parts List #88 ~ D6TZ-4234-A .. R/L 31 spline axleshafts.
6JB = Axle assembled the 2nd week (B) of September (J), 1976 (6) / A = January, M = December, the letter I is skipped.
2.75-1 ratio / 9" rear axle / 385 is the plant code / A is the first design.
If the OP wants more info for his F150, he can buy this catalog on a CD from hipoparts.com for about 22 bucks.
